FLORA

The vegetation on the island is dominated by garrigue and sclerophyllous-broadleaf species, with the thorny burnet (Sarcopoterium spinosum) being one of the more dominant ones, while on the western side there are a few sparse formations of Pistacia lentiscus bushes.

It is a very important habitat for protected endemic plants with a small distribution in the South Aegean, such as Asperula tournefortii and Allium tardans (endemic to Crete and Karpathos), while Carlina diae can also be found.
